Android already supports some of the more popular controllers out there, including the DualShock 4 and Xbox One Controller, which can be properly mapped to use on Android smartphones. Now, Android 10 has reportedly added support for the Nintendo Switch Pro controller.
Prior to the update, Android did support the Nintendo Switch Pro controller. However, it did not allow key-mapping, which has to be implemented on a per controller basis. Android 10 users can now hold the pair button on the Switch Pro Controller and connect the controller to their smartphone via Bluetooth. Smartphones will also recognize the controller when connected via a USB cable. But, they will not accept inputs.
The support for Switch Pro Controller was added back in the month of June. However, Android 10 was not available for the masses until September. So, any smartphone that runs Android 10 can connect a Switch Pro Controller. Unfortunately, smartphones that have previous Android versions don’t support the Switch Pro Controller. However, these users can select one from other options such as Dualshock 4, Xbox One Controller, Joy-Cons, or the recently launched Razr Junglecat mobile gamepad.
Some of the games that support Nintendo Switch Pro Controller include Modern Combat 5, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Minecraft.
