As WWE SmackDown continues to settle into its new home on the Fox Network, major changes continued on Friday night as SmackDown broadcast live from Allstate Arena in the Chicago area to hit the weekend celebration of Survivor Series. Two weeks ago, it was Brey Wyatt's Universal Championship that he received a minor feature after collecting from Seth Rollins and the Raw brand, while this week it was the Herald Intercontinental Championship title belt that saw a very fiery redesign.
In the third segment of the Survivor Series Go-Home edition of SmackDown, champion Shinsuke Nakamura and mouthpiece Sami Zan carried something with them in a sack in the Zain Ring. After defaming King Corbin, whom Zion made a brief change backstage before the segment, Zayn revealed that he had a gift for his champion before arriving in the bag and pulling out the brand-new intercontinental championship. The SmackDown brand will be used later.
"It's for me from you, and ... well, here, I'll show you now," Zayn said before the official unveiling. "Out with the old and in with the new."
You can see the intercontinental championship below even more closely.
The classic design of the Intercontinental Championship title belt that dates back to the mid-1980s was first dug during the Attitude Era but was once again held at the 2011 Hell in a Cell. Now, this Sunday we'll be gearing up for Survivor Series, where Nakamura will compete with the new belt - United States Champion AJ Styles and NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong - and beyond.
