Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for ghost stories - director Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar, and Dibakar Banerjee's upcoming anthology horror film - giving us a first look at what to expect from four supernatural short films, The stars Shobhita Dhulipala (produced in heaven), Janhvi Kapoor (Dhadak), Gulshan Devaiah (Hunter), Vijay Verma (Gully Boy), Mrinal Thakur (Love Sonia, Raghubir Yadav (Peepli) Live!), The likes of Avinash Tiwari (Laila Majnu), Surekha Sikri (Badai Ho), Sukant Goyal (Ribbon), and Internet star Kusha Kapila. The teaser of the second-time Ghost Stories also features a tagline for the original Netflix in India Does: "You'll get your fortune."
The teaser trailer for Ghost Stories comes a week after Netflix revealed the day of New Year's release with a date announcement video, in which Kashyap, Akhtar, Johar, and Banerjee laugh at their anthology film. Ghost Stories is the third such collaboration for the four directors on the back of the 2013 Bombay Talkies and Lust Stories of 2018. Like both previous efforts, Ghost Stories has been produced by Ashi Dua Sara of Flying Unicorn Entertainment, with RSVP's Ronnie Screwvala returning in the same capacity as Lust Stories.
When Ghost Stories was announced as one of 10 new Netflix original films from India in April, Screwvala said in a prepared statement that they were looking for "many more stories and sequels from India" and said: "Massive success stories of lust - which still have people talking about it a year after its launch - made us repeat the magic with our second anthropology called Ghost Stories Want. With Netflix, we have a partner who controls the tension in the RSVP's DNA - putting it at risk when it comes to bold content narratives and creative freedom. "
Ghost Stories airs worldwide on Netflix on January 1, 2020, at 12am IST.
