Delete ToTok, it could be spying on you, users told

Both Apple and Google have taken down messaging services ToTok from their App Store following allegations of government surveillance.

According to the New York Times, the messaging app has been accused of being a spy tool for the United Arab Emirates government.

In just a few months, however, ToTok has seen a huge increase in popularity, with millions of users installing apps in the Middle East, but also in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.

However, the NYT report claimed that US officials accused the users of the app of using location data to convey information about government officials on conversations, movements and other personal information such as photos.

In a blog post, ToTok wrote that its apps will be "temporarily unavailable" on both the App Store and Play Store due to a "technical issue".

"While existing Tutok users enjoy our service without interruption, we would like to inform our new users that we are well-connected with Google and Apple to deal with this problem."

The company said that any new users with Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo phones can install Tutok from their manufacturer's App Store. All other Android users can install Tutok app from our official website as a temporary solution.
