New Planet of the Apes Movie in Development With Maze Runner Director

Maze Runner is set to help director Wes Ball bring a new planet of the Apes film to the screen.

The Hollywood Reporter explains that the new Planet of the Apes film will be one of Fox's first famous titles, which Disney completed after the studio's takeover.

Fox lists Wes Ball, best known for directing the Maze Runner trilogy, to work on the upcoming film. It is not known whether the project is scheduled for another refresh or if it will pick up where the Caesar trilogy concluded in the 2017 Battle for the Planet.

Labyrinth Runner films were based on James Dashner's novel and portrayed a dystopian future, not unlike Apps.

So far Planet of the Apes has plenty of options, including the original 1968 film, its sequel, and a TV series in the 70s. In more modern times, we've seen filmmakers return to the story with even more recent and successful rises from Tim Burton's 2001 action-adventure and the 2011 Planet of the Apes trilogy.

They all drew from the original source material, a French science fiction novel by Pierre Boulle. It told the story of three human explorers who stumble upon a planet dominated by intelligent great apes.
