Twitter reacts to furious Virat Kohli lambasting crowd for cheering as Rishabh Pant drops Evin Lewis |
In other parts of the world, it may be "Dhoni, Dhoni", but here in Kerala, it is Sanju Samson. The Trivandrum crowd decided to show their displeasure on Samson's bench due to Rishabh Pant dropping catches, which clearly provoked Kohli, as he was out in the crowd to do the same.
Something that has become a major feature in all of India's limited-overs matches - or at least the matches that feature Rishabh Pant, is the crowd chanting "Dhoni, Dhoni" for the wicket-keeper's breakup Cheer. This was seen in both South Africa and Bangladesh series and it was before this series that skipper Virat Kohli expressed his displeasure at the crowd, calling Pant 'disgraceful'.
And being home to another Kerala wicket-keeper, Sanju Samson, the crowd was handed disappointing news ahead of the match when they found out that their homeboy was not in facilities. The disappointing performance continued at Team India ground with Washington Sundar bowling out Lendl Simmons in the fifth over, but after Sundar's drop two balls came to bitterness in every Indian player and fan, especially Kohli.
As Lewis gave himself enough room to try to put the ball in Bhuvneshwar Kumar's nose, he got a thick out-edge, which flew to the keeper. Pant, who was initially leaning towards the leg-side, was partially is-footed and had to dive to his left to catch the ball. Dive to the left and catch the ball as he did, but to his dismay, the ball went out of his hand as soon as his elbow hit the ground, resulting in a catch.
But what happened after this shocked everyone. Instead of being disappointed, the crowd roared loudly, making fun of the catches that Pant had been removed. Unpleasant reactions from the crowd clearly upset Kohli, who looked at him in disbelief and shook his head, indicating his displeasure at her gesture. Whenever the crowd does this to show their love for Samson, not their hatred for Pant, the cheer comes as a very disgusting response, something that is very disrespectful to the player in the firing line.
