Apex Legends Season 4 Trailer: All the Hidden Lore You May Have Missed |
Apex Legends dropped their new season 4 assimilation trailer today and more is on the way. We finally get a look into the backstory of The Revenant, though it's a very brief look, and we really get to dig into the depths of Titanfall and Apex to find out why the Revenant was causing so much chaos. And what is that?
I keep breaking the trailer bit by bit, so bear with me when I put things together.
At the beginning of the trailer, we see the human Revenant scrolling several images on one screen and we can catch a glimpse of other robots acting like spectres on Hammond. What comes next is a picture of a Titlefall 2 pilot named Ash, a simulacrum pilot. Simulacra are digital copies of a person's memories, knowledge and personality. Back in the Titanfall game, it was not really revealed how this simulcast was made, but the reason for their invention was to preserve a pilot whose physical body was destroyed. These copies were then downloaded into robotic bodies so that they could be used to continue and fight. Ash was an elite pilot hired by Cuban Blisk, who led the mercenary group Apex Predators.
This connection is relevant to the Revenant as he receives a warning for his next target, which leads us to believe that he is also acting as a mercenary. His target, Marcos Andred, is a Portuguese thief and hired thief. It's not super important, but Marcos and his wife gift their daughter a silver wolf. We'll be back in a minute. As the Revenant crucifies the family dinner scene, we see his incredible abilities, which allow him to transform into a "shadow form", as we were able to experience at Apex's Fight or Freight event. If The Revenant is the next legend to drop for season 4, we may have seen some of his abilities from playing in a fight or freight event. Players killed during this mode return as "shadows" who had the ability to run fast, climb walls without borders, and melee ability that increased damage.
Reddit user DaVionRainesApex put together a poster of leaked capabilities for Revenant. Two different sets of tactical, passive, and ultimate abilities are shown because data-mines have found two "stances" for him when he is in his normal form and when he turns into his shadow form. Can occur. This is all speculation, of course, and we'll get to know more about her abilities when season 4 drops, but it's an interesting one.
Back to the trailer, where we see the Revenant eject Marcos and walk through a mirror wall, seeing his reflection as his former human self and where a glass shark has embedded itself in his throat. As he pulls it out, his programming appears to trigger a few trips and a malfunction, as his own vision now shows him his true self: a simulacrum soldier. He starts to panic and loses control of his emotions: betrayal, anger, disappointment. He clearly did not know that she is a copy, and was probably copied even without her permission. The branding of the logo on his hand reveals Hammond Robotics, the company responsible for what he has become. It's time to take revenge
So, why does Hammond repeat the Revenant as Simulakaram without his permission? The Apex Twitter account stated that "The Revenant was the greatest hitman the Syndicate had ever had", meaning that perhaps the Syndicate would revive Revant if he ever fell because he was too good at his job. The trailer ends on a powerful close-up shot of Marcos's daughter, who is seen angrily staring at her father's body.
And this is where we return to the scene where he was handed over to that silver wolf. The wolf in Portuguese translates to "Lobo", but the female version of the word is "Lobo". If this name sounds familiar to you, Loba is the name of a legend, which was data-mined back after it was launched by Apex. This trailer supports the theory that Marcos' daughter will be a legend coming to Apex for revenge after years of losing her family. So this story trailer may actually date back to the past when Revenant first discovered who he really was and when Loba was just a child.
Considering the Revenant is the next legend to come into the game, it makes sense for Loba to start early next season. Response announced that there would be a mid-season split between Edge Map of the World and King's Canyon, but players from the originally suspected Forge would return anyway. However, if the presence of Lobe Revenant is heard in the story, it makes more sense and decides to leave the game itself to take matters into his own hands and take him out. All of this is just a theory I'm working on, but it will make for a killer season 4.
