Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Live Gold Price in India Cut by 24–30 Percent for All Plans

In India, Microsoft has dropped prices for its Xbox subscription services - Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. Both Xbox Game Passes for console and Xbox Live Gold are now Rs. Earlier Rs. 699 each. Xbox Game Pass (Beta) for PC is now below Rs. 329 to Rs. 249 per month. And finally, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate - which bundles the above three - is now available at Rs. 699 per month as opposed to Rs. 999 ago. All these prices are before taxes, as always. This is an effective price of 24-30 per cent. The new prices came into effect earlier this week on Wednesday, as we reported earlier.

Price reductions for Xbox subscription services in India apply to quarterly, half-yearly and annual plans, wherever available. With Xbox Live Gold - equivalent to PlayStation Plus on Sony's PS4 - for example, the six-month plan now costs Rs. 1,049 instead of Rs. 1,493.33, and the 12-month plan is down to Rs. 2,799 instead of Rs. 3,999, which we revealed back in December. With Xbox Game Pass for PC (beta) - it provides access to over 100 PC titles - gamers can now subscribe for three months for Rs. 739, below Rs. 989 ago. Xbox game passes are available only monthly for both console and Xbox game passes ultimate.

This is the first India price change in nearly three years for Xbox Live Gold, and the first India price change for the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which was launched in June last year. It is unclear what the reasons are, despite Gadgets 360s repeated request with India refusing to comment. Microsoft cited currency fluctuations in early 2017 to raise the price of Xbox Live Gold, but this is clearly not applicable here as the Indian rupee has fallen against the US dollar. It is possible that Microsoft is trying to make Xbox subscriptions more attractive in India, a market where it has largely failed to gain a foothold.

And with a new console - the Xbox Series X - launching later in 2020, it's as good as any time.
