How Big Is the Xbox Series X

Microsoft's next-generation game console officially named the Xbox Series X, finally emerged from behind its green screen of privacy at the Game Awards. This is real. It exists. It has a name! Next question: How big is this thing?

Microsoft has been silent on its actual size, numerical dimensions, and precise measurements - instead, approximately one Xbox controller wide and three Xbox controllers tall (standing upright) are described. So based on the measurement and the optical drive on the front of the console, we thought we would try it out and figure it out ... and make one ourselves. Watch it in the video above.

The optical drive of the Xbox Series X is roughly the same size as the one found on the Xbox One X, measuring about five inches long. Using that measurement, as well as the controller as a point of reference, we get a clear picture of how big this thing is.

By best estimate, the console will measure approximately: 6 inches (width), 11–12 inches (height), and 6 inches (depth). So what does it look like? And how does it compare to the Xbox One X and PS4? Something like this:

The graphic above shows all consoles (and fruits) standardized on the same scale for an educated guess comparison.

We have also created a series X replica, which we compare to a set of systems (and, yes, fruits) in the video at the top of the page. Check it out! Here is a behind the scenes:

Could this be what the Series X looks like? Maybe. Less flammable than expected.

Of course, we don't know the exact measurements until they appear, but this should make us at least figure out how many rooms we need to free up near our TVs by Holiday 2020. But here we know about the Xbox Series X. Compared to the PlayStation 5.
