Sony Patents PlayStation Controller Design With a New Feature |
Sony received patent approval for a new PlayStation DualShock Controller earlier this week. The patent was discovered on the World Intellectual Property Organization database and contained at least one visually identifiable new feature.
The patent for the new DualShock was approved on 26 December, as reported by Polygon. The front of the controller is similar to the existing PlayStation 4 DualShock but is also different from the new PlayStation Controller patent that opened in November. For example, there is no PlayStation Home button on the new patent.
But the biggest change can be seen on the back of the controller. The new design adds two back triggers to the controller. Unlike the new accessory that attaches the trigger to existing PlayStation controllers, they appear to remain in the controller itself.
It is unknown what the patent specification is. While on this occasion this design can be made for the PlayStation 5, there is an equal chance that this design is for other products such as the existing PlayStation console. In addition, companies regularly request patents for designs that never expire.
