Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: Scott Derrickson Steps Down as Director

Thirteen months later he first came on board and less than half a year after it was officially confirmed, director Scott Derrickson vacated his position as Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness, a sequel to the original Which is part of step 4. Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both Marvel Studios and Derrickson cited "creative differences" in their respective statements. Derrickson said in a tweet: "Marvel and I have mutually agreed on Doctor Strange in a different way: in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. I am grateful for our collaboration and will remain as an EP."

It is not clear exactly what was transferred, although it was likely to have something to do with the film's tone. At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, where Doctor Strange 2 was officially announced, Derrickson said that he would make the first horror Marvel film with Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Medak. Much of Derrickson's filmography - save for Doctor Strange - has been in the horror genre and he seemed well prepared to deliver on that promise. But "creative differences" suggest that Marvel was not pleased with the direction Derrickson was taking; Maybe how far they had to go with this.

Either way, Benedict Cumberbatch remains in the title role as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlett Witch alongside Elizabeth Olsen. Doctor Strange 2 will tie into the events of two Disney + series: Wandavision, and Loki, with Avengers-era Tom Hiddleston overtaking Multiverse. Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Chiwetel Ejiofor are expected to star in their own roles as Wong, Christine Palmer and Carl Mordo in Doctor Strange of Madness, giving their importance to the world of Doctor Strange.

Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness will be released in India and worldwide on May 7, 2021.
