Fortnite Generated the Highest Digital Revenue in 2019 |
The popularity of Fortnite has skyrocketed over the years due to new content and in-game promotional events. Research firm, Superdata, claims that Fortnite generated a massive $ 1.8 billion in revenue in 2019. Fortnite achieved this feat for the second consecutive year. However, the game's revenue decreased compared to last year's $ 2.4 billion.
Even after the drop-off, the video game industry's digital sales have grown 4% over the previous year and generated $ 120.1 billion in 2019. Mobile games contributed a staggering $ 64.4 billion, while PC and console produced $ 29.6 billion and $ 15.4 billion, respectively.
Fortnite has managed to win titles such as League of Legends ($ 1.5 billion), Pokemon Go ($ 1.4 billion), and Last Shelter: Survival ($ 1.2 billion). Fortnite's success is available on all major platforms, its free-to-play models, crossover events, and often due to the addition of new content. Crossover events add new content to the game.
For example, the recent Star Wars crossover event added the skins of the new Ray, Finn, Sith Tropper, Kyo Ren and Jori Bliss with a special clip of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The game generates most of its revenue with sports cosmetics and Battle Pass.
