Niantic Announces January 2020 Events For Pokémon Go

Pokémon Go's Holiday 2019 event has ended and Niantic has already revealed its plans for January 2020. This month's events include Team Go Rocket Special Research Questions featuring a new Shadow Pokémon, Lapras in Research Breakthrough Encounter, Hatchathon, and more.

New special research quests revolving around Team Rocket have been added to the game. Similar to previous Team Rocket special research, this month's discovery will feature a battle with Team Rocket leader Giovanni. After defeating him, players will have a chance to catch Moltres, a new Shadow Legendary Pokémon. Along with this, Pokémon Go is also getting new field research tasks. After receiving a Research Breakthrough, players will encounter a special Lapras, with attacks such as Ice Shard or Ice Beam.

From today to January 16, the game has an Adventure Sync Synchtachon event going on. In this event, players will earn rare candies, additional Stardust, and an Anova stone. Anova Stone can be used to develop some Gen 5 Pokémon by walking some distance. Niantic is also teasing some new Pokémon that will soon be added to the game discovered in the Unova region, however, it does not mention the names of these Pokémon. During the event, players can also face wild Pokémon by wearing a party hat.

On January 7, Legendary Pokémon Heathen will return to the Five Star Reads. He then will be available until February 4 and players have the chance to face Pokémon in their dazzling form.
