Xbox Live Gold Price in India Cut by 30 Percent, Effective January 15 |
Microsoft is slashing the price of Xbox Live Gold by 30 per cent in India, Gadgets 360 has learned. The 12-month subscription to the online gaming service - the equivalent of PlayStation Plus on Sony's PS4 - is now Rs. 2,799, earlier Rs. 3,999. The new India price for Xbox Live Gold will be effective from January 15, 2020. We've reached out to Microsoft India to comment on the reason for the price drop for the annual Xbox Live Gold subscription, and whether a similar price drop is expected in two other Xbox Live Gold plans: monthly and 6 months.
This is the first time in nearly three years that Microsoft has resumed India's pricing for Xbox Live Gold. In early 2017, Microsoft has since reduced the membership fee to Rs. 2,240 for an existing fee of Rs. 3,999, citing currency fluctuations. Since then, the Indian rupee has fallen further against the US dollar. It is clear that the 12-month price of the new Xbox Live Gold in India - transmitted to subscribers in an Xbox One chat message in December - is not due to that. Whatever it is, it should have been increased. Rather, Microsoft appears to be preparing for the next generation: the Xbox Series X.
With the new console launching in the last months of 2020 - going up against the PS5 - Microsoft will no doubt believe that it is a new subscription. In addition, Microsoft has recently started placing more emphasis on the Xbox Game Pass, which incorporates Xbox Live Gold. It is possible that the game is the way to go. Because of all that, it is only natural that Microsoft will begin to pay less attention to Xbox One, and in turn Xbox Live Gold. Can explain the decline in price, suggesting that the quality of profit may also suffer from here.
On the other hand, Sony has not yet announced any changes in the price of PS Plus in India. For now, it is Rs. 599 per month, Rs. 1,869 for six months, and Rs. 4,439 a year. For Xbox Live Gold, it costs Rs. 699 per month, Rs. 1,493.33 for six months, and Rs. 2,799 a year, effective January 15, 2020.
