| New Mario & Luigi Trademark Filed By Nintendo Despite Series' Studio Closure |
Nintendo has applied for a new trademark for the Mario & Luigi brand, despite developing the studio - AlphaDream - closed last year.
Nintendo of America has applied for new trademarks in South America through the trademark office of Argentina, as reported by LetsGoDigital (via Eurogamer).
Details associated with the filing include notes of "computer game cartridges"; Game memory card; Computer game software; Video game memory card; Interactive entertainment software for playing video games; "Cover for Mobile Phone", indicating that it covers everything that comes out of the Mario & Luigi brand.
Mario and Luigi's games are RPGs developed by AlphaDream. The future of the series was put into uncertainty last year when Alfadres filed for bankruptcy and was forced to close. Since then, Nintendo has not made any official comment on its intentions for the RPG series, so fans have become unsure whether there will be more games. This trademark filing could indicate plans for further release, or an act to re-secure the trademark if it was about a lapse in South America.
While it is unclear what the future will hold for the Mario and Luigi series, Mario and Luigi themselves will naturally remain an important part of Nintendo's game. Last year at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Super Mario Maker 2, Luigi's Mansion 3, Mario and Sonic were released.
